Johnny Pellegrini. The Pride of UNCLE JOHN’S PRIDE
In case some of you folks reading this don’t know who Uncle John’s is, we’re a family-owned company in central Florida that specializes in fresh and smoked sausages and meats. We’ve been in business for over forty years and are well known for the quality, freshness, and affordability of our products.
One of the individuals who is key to our reputation is Mr. Johnny Pellegrini, our smokehouse Master Smoker and Chef. Johnny has been with us for about 25 years now and it would probably be an understatement to say that running a smokehouse is in his blood. It certainly is.
That’s because back in the early 1990s, when he graduated from high school (which explains his youthful looks) he was, like most young men his age, kicking around some ideas about what he was going to do with his life. Well, that kicking around lasted a pretty short time. No sooner had the ink dried on Johnny’s diploma, his dad let him know that he had it all figured out. “You’re coming to work with me at Uncle John’s Pride,” his dad said. “You’ll start on Monday.”
So, to say that the smokehouse is in his blood means a lot more than you were probably thinking. Johnny inherited his love of his work, and the pride he takes in it from his dad, who we can’t forget in this story. Johnny is proud to say that he was “destined to become a sausage man,” and that’s because his dad worked for Uncle John’s for 25 years in fact. “Back then,” Johnny tells it, “we didn’t have a phone. My dad went to the plant, stopped in the office, filled out an application, and went home. Not long after there was a knock at our door. It was Uncle John himself. He’d come to the house and personally offered my dad a job.”
Being that Johnny was essentially introduced to Uncle John’s when he was still in diapers, it’s safe to say that he knows Uncle John’s better than just about anyone. Which is probably why he has what David Bean, our VP of Sales, calls “the most important job in the plant.”
As you’ve hopefully gathered by now, family plays an important part in the Uncle John’s Pride story. We have been family owned since its founding over four decades ago, and our commitment to quality has been handed down from one generation to the next. This commitment to excellence, from more than 100 years of experience, carries over to our entire line of sausage and smoked meat products. As for our sausage, we’ll say only this: one taste and you’ll see why we make the “best sausage on the planet.”
So, what does Johnny do in his spare time? He loves fishing and just being outdoors with his nine-year-old daughter. He also enjoys the time they spend together in the kitchen; making jambalaya with Uncle John’s Pride sausage is a favorite. Even more than his spare time, Johnny enjoys his work. Why? It’s a great source of pride for him. “They don’t call me the sausage man for nothing,” he says. “And that’s because our sausage is the best there is.” When invited to a local cook-out, he brings the sausage. When he sees someone in the supermarket about to choose another brand of sausage he’ll ask, “why not try this one?” He’s proud of the product and the fact that he’s a true expert at making it. “I even went to school for it… “smoke university,” at the Alkar Smokehouse School in Wisconsin,” he says.
So, when you see the word “Pride” in our name, it’s not just something we stuck there to make people feel good about our products. It really means something… a lot, in fact. And we have folks like Johnny Pellegrini, our smokehouse Master, to thank for that.
