Make a New Year’s Resolution You Can Keep!
New Year’s resolutions. What do we know about them? One, they’re almost always broken within the first three months that they’re made, and second, they’re usually always about giving something up. Why? We believe it’s because of two reasons: One, many resolutions are too ambitious from the start, and two, it’s far easier to not do something that’s bad for you than it is to start doing something new that is good for you.
The folks here at Uncle John’s Pride feel that we have a solution to the broken resolution; enjoy smoked sausage more often! Yet again, this works for two reasons. First, it’s easy to do. With Uncle John’s Pride Sausage right there on the shelf at your favorite grocer and the delicious recipes you’ll find on our website, adding some spectacularly sizzling-hot smoked sausage meals to your diet is as simple as can be. The other reason this works is that we’re not asking you to give anything up, especially something you really love.
Since it sure wouldn’t be fair to talk about sausage recipes without putting one out there for you, we figured that in the spirit of holiday giving we’d offer you a delicious recipe that you can use to kick off your new year. Now, we’ve talked a bit in the past about how smoked sausage can actually contribute in a positive way to good health, but we think this is a good time to mention it again. In a study called Uncovering the Nutritional Landscape of Food, pork was in the top ten of “the world’s 100 most nutritious foods.” Why? According to the study, “pork fat is a good source of B vitamins and minerals, and is more unsaturated and healthier than lamb or beef fat.” In short, don’t feel bad about resolving to eat more smoked sausage in 2020, as it’s a lot healthier for you than you might have thought. Which brings us to our recipe:
- 1.5 lbs Brussels Sprouts
- 1.5 lbs Uncle John’s Pride Hot Smoked Sausage
- Olive Oil
- Whiskey Bent The Rocks Meat Rub
- Parmesan Cheese
- Dice Brussels Sprouts and layer onto baking sheet
- Lightly coat sprouts with olive oil
- Sprinkle with 3 tbsps Whiskey Bent Rocks Beef Rub
- Bake in oven for 20 minutes at 375 degrees
- Chop fine 1.5 lbs of Uncle John’s Pride Hot Smoked Sausage
- Remove baking sheet from oven and layer diced sausage onto Brussels Sprouts
- Place sheet in oven and reheat for 10 minutes at 375 degrees
- Remove baking sheet from oven and sprinkle on a layer of parmesan cheese
- Enjoy! Serves 6-8 people.
Is that all there is to a good New Year’s resolution? Of course not. While you’re doing something good for yourself, like enjoying good-for-you sausage dishes, think about taking some time to do something good for someone else. After all, this is the season of giving and there are certainly many out there who are less fortunate than we are. Consider supporting organizations to provide much-needed help to those in our community who need it most.
So, this New Year, resolve not just to enjoy more sausage, but to do what you can to help those in need, as well. While our family at Uncle John’s Pride feels that there are few things in this world as good as eating smoked sausage, we unanimously agree that helping others is even better.
